Finally, I am excited to feature this love story from an interesting and fun-loving couple who recently got married. We had almost a year from when Ramzi proposed to our wedding date, giving us a lot of time to plan. We used the last part of 2012 to get a general idea….drawing up a budget, getting cost estimates, researching themes, and I started shopping for vendors. Actual planning

started in January 2013.

 

 WEDDING COLORS

White Wedding : PALE PINK/BURGUNDY WITH SILVER ACCENTS

  Trad Wedding  : FUSCHIA/SILVER

This was a bit of a tough one. I  wanted pale pink for  the white wedding. I think it’s an ethereal color which flatters most skin tones. However, Ramzi (typical guy) wasn’t having it so we had to find a suitably ‘manly’ color which would suit him and not clash with pink. I was watching TLC’s ‘Say Yes to the Dress’  when I got the inspiration for Burgundy.I asked Ramzi and he loved it. So we put the men in burgundy and the ladies in pink.We added silver accents because we wanted a fairytale crystal/chandelier themed reception.

WEDDING PLANNING

From the get go Ramzi and I drew up a list,detailing who would organize what.He was to take care of the drinks,music/DJ,the cake,getting his clothes and that of his bestman,while I wasto take care of everything else. Of course as the wedding got closer the lines blurred and towards the end our major task was just getting each other through it all.

I’ve been asked by a lot of girlfriends why I went for a ball dress instead of a figure hugging mermaid silhouette. My answer is always that since I was a little girl I’ve dreamed of wearing a ball gown on my wedding day. Nothing makes you feel like a princess the way a ball gown does. I mixed it up by making sure my reception dress was a sexy,slinky,figure hugging mermaid dress.

WEDDING VENUE -BADEN BADEN EXQUISITE HOTEL, BENIN

I fell in love with my wedding venue at first sight.I had come into town just for a weekend and I needed to sort out a wedding venue before going back. After seeing a lot of halls,I was getting a little frazzled when I stumbled across my venue.  It was perfect -exotic, gorgeous  name,manicured lawns, shady trees,and a beautiful hall. The hall had been decorated for another wedding- with a pale pink and silver theme. It was a sign. Kismet. It was also really affordable and close to the church.We checked other halls but we always kept coming back.

MOST SCREAMWORTHY MOMENTS

There were a lot of them….The week before the wedding especially. I had planned the entire wedding from Lagos so there was a few loose ends left to tie up. Some unexpected hitches too. I had to do emergency reconstructive surgery on my dress sleeves for the church service. My caterer suddenly developed a mind of her own, my programs, menus and monogrammed serviettes had to be sent in from Lagos and got delayed for a few days (during which I nearly went ballistic).

   TIPS FOR BRIDES.

-You will find a billion reasons to fight with your soon-to-be husband while planning.Ignore these reasons.ALL of them.

-Draw up a budget.Stick to it.

-Only hire a vendor if his/her personality agrees with yours

-Delegate.Delegate.Delegate

- Pictures last a lifetime.get the best photographer you can afford.
